Description

A fault in the Ohio Shale at Berlin Heights, Berlin Township, Erie County, Ohio. Bedrock is from the Devonian Geologic Period. The image was made in 1977. The location is approximate to the township. REVIEW The slide says Erie NPP, which may mean the area of the Erie Nuclear Power Plant Merrianne Hackathorn had the following to say in an e-mail to Lisa Long on 11 August 2016: Well, I am stumped. I checked my old work calendars from May through September 1977 and could find no notes that I had been along the lakeshore. The only thing I could come up with for NPP is Nickel Plate Park, which is in Huron, Ohio, and in Erie County, but well west of Vermilion on the Lake, which is in Lorain County. Don Guy might be able to recognize the locality. Sorry I can't help on this mystery. Don Guy had the following to say in an e-mail to Lisa Long on 12 August 2016: Erie NPP probably stands for Erie Nuclear Power Plant. The plant was never constructed. Rick Pavey, Mike Angle, or Rene Fernandez may have taken the photo. This slide image included in the USGS National Digital Catalog for NGGDPP Grant G15AP00115 in FY2015.
