The bald eagle relief in bricks was seen during an Ohio Geological Survey Teachers Workshop tour inside the facilities of Bowerston Shale Company operations at Hanover, Licking County, Ohio. Bedrock is from the Mississippian Geologic Period. The image was made by Sherry L. Weisgarber in 1988.

The skilled staff in our architectural specialties and design department create custom shapes and sculptures that give unlimited possibilities to building design. A large sculpture studio is open to visitors who wish to view the sculpture process. Our artists can create a design specifically for your application, scale the drawing to size and submit it for your approval. The design is then carved into the green brick and color tinted if necessary. The brick is then fired and packaged for shipment. As you can see in the examples below, sculptures can be created for residential, commercial and institutional applications.
Bowerston Shale Company has been in brick production business since 1929. They have two production locations (Hanover in Licking County and Bowerston in Harrison County).
