Name/Title
S16.04.169Description
The cliff of Sharon sandstone/gonglomerate, known as Boone Rock, adjacent to the Jackson municipal sewage-treatment plant in Jackson, Jackson County, Ohio. A meander of the Little Salt Creek formerly flowed at the base of the cliff but was abandoned when the stream was channelized. American Indians, and later settlers, made salt at this site by digging shallow pits into the sandstone exposed in the creek bed, then boiling the brine that seeped into these pits. The image was taken by Michael C. Hansen in June 1991.
