Description

Field trip to the Madison Stone Company quarry southeast of West Jefferson in Jefferson Township, Madison County, Ohio. Exposed in the quarry is about 11 feet of Raisin River Dolomite of the Silurian Geologic Period that is overlain with sharp contact either by a lens of conglomerate and sandstone or by sandy dolomite of the basal Columbus Limestone. This image shows the overlying contact with the equivalent of the Hillsboro Sandstone of the Devonian Geologic Period. The photograph was taken at Stop 1 of the North-Central Section Geological Society of America field trip to "Devonian Outcrops in Columbus, Ohio, and Vicinity" led by Adriaan Janssens on May 17, 1969.
