An outcrop of the Pottsville Group-Sharon sandstone/conglomerate in Liberty Township, Jackson County, Ohio. Many scenic gorges, cliff exposures and outliers like this one known as "Big Rock" are common in Jackson County. This area has shale, siltstone, sandstone and conglomerate lithologies. Bedrock is from the Pennsylvanian Geologic Period. The photograph was taken by Wilber E. Stout in the 1940s.
