An outcrop showing Portersville shale overlain by the Cow Run sandstone of the Conemaugh Group on the southeast side of the Stimson Avenue Bridge over the Hocking River at Athens, Athens County, Ohio. This area has shale, siltstone, mudstone, sandstone, limestone and coal lithologies. Bedrock is from the Pennsylvanian Geologic Period. The image was taken by Michael C. Hansen in 1974.
