A test trench exposing limestone and iron ore of the Allegheny Group at Kimberly, York Township, Athens County, Ohio. Bedrock is from the Pennsylvanian Geologic Period. This image probably documents the work done for Measured Stratigraphic Section File Number 6732. File Number 6732 describes the area of measurement as an exposure in a strip mine and in prospect cut along slope on the south side of Minkers Run. Myron T. Sturgeon identifies this area with his work on the Bolivar cyclothem, Shawnee limestone as described on pages 84, 86 and 87 of the Geology and Mineral Resources of Athens County, Ohio, Geological Survey of Ohio, Bulletin 57 (Columbus, 1958).The photograph was taken by Myron T. Sturgeon in August 1945.
