Western Reserve Academy began in Hudson, Ohio in 1826. It served as a college and preparatory school for boys. In 1836, the first African American student was admitted. In 1878, the first woman graduated from the college. Western Reserve College split from Western Reserve Academy in 1882. It would later become Case Western Reserve University.
The preparatory school remains today, despite a short closing from 1903-1916. In 1922, it became an all boys school, but was reopened to women in 1972. Their alumni list includes a variety of high profile politicians, artists, sports players, and business people.Location
