Fragment of a Fulcrum (Headboard)

FRAGMENT OF A FULCRUM (Headboard) | 1969 | Photo by Ann Cady, 2024 | ©2025 Cornell Univsersity: The photo depicts an ancient, weathered ceramic artifact with a rough texture and a brownish hue; its surface features intricate patterns and what appear to be small, abstracted figures perhaps a parrot and lion, evoking a sense of mystery and hinting at a possibly ancient cultural origin; the object's uneven texture suggests the passage of time, while its distinctive shape and carvings could imply it served a specific, yet perhaps merely a decorative purpose; It is set against a neutral gray background.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This ceramic piece was probably the upper decoration of a fulcrum. Llhuroscian reclining couches (klirzai) were, typically, adorned with fulcra. These decorations, especially by Naciremian craftsmen, were whimsical, usually with references to the ancient bird god, Aar-Teen. In this fulcrum there is the unlikely congress of the giant "ernon" of the genus Psittacus and the stunted breeds of lion and bear. [1972 Exhibition Catalog]
