Marinating Trays

MARINATING TRAYS | 1969 | Photo by Ann Cady, 2024 | ©2026 Norman Daly Art: The photo depicts two ancient, weathered trays with distinct patterns; the left mold features concentric oval and circular designs with significant erosion and cracks, while the right mold has a grid-like texture with similar wear, each displaying unique texture and erosion patterns, and set against a dark, neutral background that highlights their intricate details and aged, rough surfaces, evoking a sense of a bygone era.

[1972 Exhibition Catalog]The depressions held juices of spices and herbs for 516 cures in a single tray. Such trays are believed to have been used earlier by the Uoyabian priesthood that was famed for its intricacies of gastronomy. These were found at the Temple of Holmeek in the excavations at Houndee in 1966 by the Swedish Institute of Archaeological Science and Research.
