Description

Rosewood reed organ with intricate carvings of woman at the very top of organ with curls and tiara. Organ has carvings and fretwork from top to bottom, with velvet-covered foot pedals. Has 4 knobs on the left. Has tag that says "Design of Case Patented Oc. 22, 1857" "Sub bass", "Flute", Melonia"(?), "Forte". On the left it has 4 knobs or pulls that say "Humana", "Picdo", "Von Celeste", and "Cupler". Has 2 huge pedals hinged to the base. Has 2 shelves on either side of the base that each have 3 shelves and can be locked. Doors and knee panel have faded intricate paintings of bust of beautiful lady. Faded gold paint lines highlight the carvings. Below, faded gold cameo decals adorn the panelling. in the center of the kneeboard is the remains of a painted medallion with gold and blue pigment - perhaps another lady's cameo. On top of the keyboard on either side is a swing shelf made to hold candles. Organ was purchased for Virginia Bell Roberts in Cincinnati, OH, in 1875 and shipped by parcel post to Muse's Bottom.
