The valley bank was chartered in 1893, located in a building on the corner of court and north streets. The valley bank moved into a building on court street in 1907. on aug 3, 1915, the bank surrendered its charter to the state of west virginia. The first national bank of ripley opened on august 4, 1915. in 1927 the citizens state bank merged assets with the first national bank. After the merger, the new bank erected a building on the corner of main and court streets. In 1966 the first national bank had outgrown the old building, and the bank bought the property at the corner of north and court streets. The lot had been the starcher hospital, and is todal the united national bank. Employees in 1927 were from left to right george straley, margaret walker, and howard kerwood.
