The following letter was left at the County Assessors office with 1983 NALC map by Starling Miller, who took map and possibly photo from museum collection. Katrena Ramsey reclaimed both January 2022:
July 29th, 1932
It affords me sincere pleasure to congratulate my young friends Mr. Starling Miller (nephew of my former partner and good friend the late Hon. Warren Miller), and his wife, Sue Proctor Miller, on their recent marriage; and to give them my best personnel wishes for their success and happiness in their beautifully situated home, the photographic picture of the Washington land known as the "Edmund Law Rogers Land" on the Ohio, comprising a unit of ii34 45/iooths acres, appearing on the opposite side of this frame.
This photograph was taken at my request by the late Mr. Frank Cooper, son in law of Dr. B. H. Hoyt, of Ravenswood, from the summit of the hills on the opposite side of the river in Meighs Co, Ohio. Whilst the part of the said land known as the "Big Woods Park" on the railroad still contained the native forest thereon, and in its primitive condition, and whilst Judge Miller and myself were engaged in clearing most ______(?) tract of its timber.
Not the steam from the saw mill, the cars standing on the railroad switch south of trestle; the old "Alf Douglas cottage"; the chestnut trees scattered over the bottoms; the line fence of the Reuben Douglas land on the south; the Haymond land on the north; the Lick Run Valley in the back ground; the head of Goose Island (which properly should be called "Georges Island: (as it is on old maps for Geo Washington) and not in middle the beautiful elevation upon which Judge Miller later built his brick residence, and fine barn, and which commands a view of the river and surrounding lands.
The artist, Mr. Cooper had an eye for artistic work of the kind, and brings out the beauties of each side of the river.
Judge Miller and I cleared about 600 acres of this fine body of land, and sowed on it 600 bushels of export quality of KY bluegrass, ____________ ________(?) of timothy.
Very cordially and sincerely your friend,
Charles L. Brown
