Description

"Sparkling Warrior" is a tribute to the late Indian-American trailblazer, Sonal Bhuchar, who is the namesake of Sonal Bhuchar Elementary School in Fort Bend ISD. She passed away in 2019 from cancer complications at the age of 58. This Art Car has been created by the hands of the inaugural members of the Royal Bengal Art and Design Collective, SBE's 100+ member art club! We were inspired by Sonal Bhuchar's Indian heritage, and researched traditional Indian artworks and imagery for our design concept. We handcrafted over 300 sparkling mandalas out of old CD's, and a giant golden shimmering sun to represent the vibrant, luminous soul of Sonal Bhuchar. Our design also honors the rich, colorful heritage of Mumbai, India, Bhuchar's birthplace. We would love to thank Mr. Kevin Corley of Sugar Land for the incredibly generous donation of his 1973 Toyata Celica which became "Sparkling Warrior!" I am Jodie Daniels Tannahill, and I am an art teacher at Sonal Bhuchar Elementary School in Fort Bend ISD. This year was our inaugural year at SBE, and our mission at SBE is to create unforgettable and EPIC educational experiences for our students! What could be more EPIC than creating an Art Car? A local man in Sugar Land was looking for an art teacher to donate his Toyota Celica to, with the intention of it being turned into an Art Car! I was put in contact with him, and it was meant to be! I put together an art club at school, and we quickly got to work on it. My students are my biggest inspiration. I want them to cultivate a deep love and understanding of all art, and not just art in a classroom. I want to give them real life experiences where they can witness true art in the world and be exposed to real artists who are passionate about what they do. I am so excited for them to be able to experience this opportunity and for them to be so proud of their contributions to a collaborative work of art!
