"The ubiquitous yellow school bus is a powerful symbol of the American Dream but it has a dark side. 95%+ of school buses in the US run on diesel. Diesel exhaust is a known carcinogen and the noxious gasses and particulate pollution (think chunks of soot) concentrate inside the cabins of the school buses. It has been measured at over 10x the concentration of these harmful chemicals INSIDE the bus compared to the ambient air outside. We can stop gassing our most vulnerable citizens now!
A group of students from across Texas decorated and hand painted a Blue Bird fully electric zero emissions school bus! Our non-profit's mission is to facilitate the speedy and equitable transition to a zero-emissions school bus fleet in Texas and beyond. We are bringing people together to celebrate what is possible as we transition to a clean energy future."
I am the co-founder and director of the Texas Electric School Bus Project and it is my honor and passion to bring zero-emissions school buses to kids across the state! I went to college at Rice University and never missed an art car parade. I am raising my two little boys here in Houston now and I love this city and all of our weird and awesome traditions. I want to be a part of this event that I love and spread the word about Electric School Buses and the positive impacts they have on people and communities. We want to center the students and their voices because these are the people we are doing this work for! We had a community awareness event where everyone got a chance to decorate this electric school bus!
