2021- Youngest Solo Artist - Special Mention
This car is called vwButtercup and she’s just here to make you smile! She is a 2007 Volkswagen Beetle who is covered in flower and butterfly vinyl stickers with some added paint and flat glass marble details to really make her pop! She wears a crown made to look like a field of butterflies flying in the breeze. And because she’s beautiful inside and out, her dashboard is decorated with many colorful flowers and her seats have tie dye covers. What inspired me to design her this way was the joy I felt witnessing my first Art Car Parade. I loved every one and couldn’t help but be awestruck by everything that drove by. Now that I have my own, I wanted to design her so that people can see that anyone can design a car, and that happiness is a great thing when shared.
After I moved to Texas when I was in the third grade, I was really out of my element in such a difference culture, as I’m originally from Boston. To help us acclimate, one of my mom’s friends brought us to our first Houston Art Car Parade, and I fell in love. Seeing how beautiful all of the cars were made me feel extremely happy and at home, and I vowed to design one when I was finally old enough to have a car. When I was only 15, I got my first car and after all those years of waiting, it was finally time. Instead of doing something grand, I started small with the stickers, but have slowly been adding more and more every year. As I’m now entering my fifth year in the parade (with my first being online and my second being the Art Car Experience), I hope you can appreciate art cars as much as I did, and just maybe make one of your own someday.
