"I have been a beekeeper for 15 years. In that time I have seen so many struggles our pollinators go through in city food deserts and how many homeowners are not aware of how they can help. The benefits of adding a garden is enormous!
It came time to renew my license plate and choose a personalized one. As soon as I put ""POLLEN"" my Honda Fit, it was to time to let the creative process begin. I sanded my blue Fit, primed it and now it's a growing Minnesota native garden to bring awareness to the public to add gardens to their properties. It has been so much fun chatting with people when they see my car. It is a traveling educational garden on wheels.
I used OneShot oil paint. It is a work in progress. The garden keeps growing."
"I've been a city beekeeper for 15 years. For more than 25 years I was a photo stylist setting up shots for commercial photographers. It got quite boring as I got older. Now I have share a studio and call myself a photographer and environmental artist. I have freedom to do art that I want to do. I've been involved with the Art Shanty Projects for the past five years. I like documenting events and situations, making little videos. I'm a stilter and enjoy making my costumes. I joined a local fire dance group and our troupe went to Burning Man last year. I loved everything about it but we didn't get to perform the night of the burn. Still the people and the art was amazing!
I am inspired by being around artists of all types and diciplines. Collaborating on projects with other creative folks. I enjoy having new experiences and making memories. I love being outside and seeing the natural world as seasons change.
Why I made an Art Car? I was hanging out with the Mpls ArtCar people as one of the bikers. When it got too cold to bike; I'm not a winter biker. I made a temporary ArtCar out of fabric. It was a hassle putting it on the car for events and parades and it faded and looked pretty shabby after a summer. So now I love driving my Pollen daily driver to give joy to anyone who sees it.
I can't wait to see all the cool Art Cars in one event!"
