Description

2017,16,15,14, 2007-past winners with different entries Our art car is based on the theme of a psychedelic Alice in Wonderland. The vehicle is transformed into a brightly colored Cheshire Cat. We chose the theme of Alice in Wonderland because of the variety of bizarre visual imagery that we can tap into for ideas of how to transform an everyday work truck into a fun and functional art car that won't break down during the parade...hopefully. The core characters of the Queen of Hearts, the Cheshire Cat, The Mad Hatter and Alice are played by the Lemberger family Kati, Yolle, Sepp and Lilli. The additional entourage of Wonderland characters are played by friends who ride or skate alongside. Building materials tend to be whatever is handy and can be reused from past projects as well as hitting up the local dollar store. "We've participated in the Art Car Parade as a family since 1999 when our kids were little. As they've grown up and developed their own creative talents, they have helped design, build and decorate whatever contraption we come up with. We usually start building at the last minute...sometimes the night before the parade, but this year we're committed to starting earlier! Our kids tap into a broad circle of creative friends to help with the art car and come along for the ride to animate the theme. The Lemberger family is a creative lot. Kati is an artist and art teacher at Hogg Middle School in the Heights. Yolle is a master carpenter. Their company Yakwerks creates parade floats for the City of Houston and a variety of props for other events around the city. Sepp attends the University of Houston Downtown and is involved in community arts. Lilli attends the University of Houston and is a costume designer. We are looking forward to having a great time during Art Car Week and are excited to see lots of longtime friends that always gather to participate and watch the Art Car Parade!"
