Description

2017 - 1st Daily Driver I love mermaids and the ocean. Mermania has three mermaids and a painted ocean scene in the back. there is a mermaid on each side of the car and the face on the hood of the car with her tail coming off of the roof. The tail is made with chicken wire, bondo, styrofoam, and fiberglass. The rest of the car is painted and bejeweled with various materials. I went to my first art car parade in Houston in 1998. I walked the line and at the end of the line I decided I was going to do a car. I had NEVER done art and couldn't paint in the lines or draw at all. I didn't want to decorate my daily driver so I purchased 1958 VW bug. I am an intuitive so we covered the car with tarot cards. The next year I decorated my daily driver and she became Peaches on the Beaches. I continued the art car path by doing three more cars and decorating my house to excess. Once I got the wild creative bug it stayed with me. The painting of the cars and the drawing has always been done by someone else with my overbearing art direction and me doing some repainting on rare occasion. I provide the vision for the cars and know what the end result should be. I am, however, the glue master. I have done almost all of the adhesive work on all my cars. I am no longer afraid of holding a brush with paint but I still don't draw or live in the lines. As always, I love the Main Street Drag. It has on more than one occasion brought me tears. It is moving to see joy. There is nothing more special that I do all year than see the faces of those we see on Main Street Drag day.
