Description

2022 & 2019 2nd painted car The concept for this car comes from a lifelong obsession with the panda bear that started at a very young age. We first started painting pandas on this 1991 Ford Tempo when it was my only form of transportation to hide its dents and rust spots; however, since than it has become a labor of love that has changed many times before finally participating in the parade in 2019. Currently the car boasts more than 35 painted bears with more being added yearly! Ever since my first introduction with the parade as part of Jim Robertson's team, I've been hooked! I think the most inspiring part for me is the camaraderie and encouragement I feel with the other artist in the Houston art car community, especially my dear friend and mentor, Jim Robertson. This community has always been a safe and welcoming group that has helped me grow, not only artistically, but being extremely shy into a more confident person. Being an elementary art teacher, I also enjoy and look forward to the main street drag as much as the parade. I love the opportunity to bring art into schools and see the excitement on the kids' faces while they make that connection to their community and the visual arts.
