The kinetic energy of "Just Out for a Spin" is created by over 500 muti-colored pinwheels, a large derrick mounted rotating spinner, and propeller fan changes depending on the wind and vehicle speed. Over 20 tin animals can be seen among the spinners, delighting children and adults alike. All are secured to the truck covered with painted canvas and chicken wire.
In the mid-1990s and small group of strangers participated in the Houston Marathon and a long-lasting friendship developed. This group has met at a local restaurant very Monday night for the last 27 years and in 2022, were inspired to submit an entry for the Art Car Parade. As they were all reaching retirement and considering changes in their lives, the theme "Just Out for a Spin." seemed appropriate, especially since none had any concrete plans on post-retirement life.
