My art car promotes Animal Rights as presented by the Simpsons. Lisa, the vegetarian, is the star of the car, of course. But also featured are Mr. Burns' grizzly bear underwear, Blinky the 3-eyed fish, and Santa's Little Helper who was rescued from a dog track. Using only paint on my car, I hope to convey that animals are not ours for food, clothing, or entertainment.
"I love animals, nature, and art. When my children were little, we enjoyed going to the art car parade. Then they became adolescents and started complaining about everything. I said, ""Fine. You don't want to go to the art car parade anymore, then next year we're in it."" I asked my children to help design my first two art cars, Sparta & Splat. After that, I wanted a design that represented me, hence came Celticar and Puzzling Times. Because I am politically active on many issues, this year I decided to express one of those issues in my design.
I have been a vegan for 33 years and vegetarian for 5 years before that. Animal agriculture is the largest single contributor to climate change and the destruction of rain forests. I know Texans don't want to hear it. So rather than being preachy, I decided to convey my message with characters from my favorite TV show, The Simpsons. Big thank you to Sam Simon."
