Description

"Feast your eyes on the debut art car of Arts District Houston! A creation by first-time art car artist Kearin Cook. Serving as a moveable mural, this impressive 1991 Chevy Suburban honors the historic 1st and 6th ward neighborhoods. In celebration of a decade as a state-designated cultural district, this car embodies a vibrant tapestry of wonders and attractions! Notice the distinctive icons that make the Arts District such a unique place to visit including: the rice silos, the historic architecture, Buffalo Bayou Park and its public sculptures. This mobile masterpiece blends history and modern allure in a captivating harmony. And, Cook's whimsical and imaginative design pays tribute to the area's architectural gems and the community who support this creative ecosystem boasting the largest concentration of working artists in the state of Texas. A huge congratulations to Kearin Cook and to Arts District Houston." "Arts District Houston, a program managed by Fresh Arts, wanted to find a unique way to celebrate its 10 Year anniversary. And tying together Fresh Arts along with the Art Car Parade and the Orange Show was a perfect blend for us. Having the opportunity to support a first time art car artist aligns with our mission at Fresh Arts, a nonprofit that supports the professional development of local Houston artist. We are so lucky to have artist Kearin Cook and project manager Rickey Pollidore on this project. Since it is our first time participating in the Art Car Parade, we look forward to getting to know a whole other sector in Houston's long-standing arts and culture community."
