#Description
---- David Best, a modern master of assemblage who has transformed more than 30 vehicles into mobile works of art debuted this car in Houston’s 2007 Art Car Parade. Beginning as a ’62 Cadillac convertible it was modified with an assortment of other cars’ parts - additional Cadillac fins, ‘63 riviera headlights and fenders, ‘55 Cadillac bumpers along with a variety of truck cab lights.
Covering every inch of the modified car are layers of found materials of all sorts from miniature baby dolls to vacuum parts to polished gemstones to beads and marbles of all sizes creating a multi textured envelope. Continuing the theme throughout the car are slot machine parts, embedded coins and vignettes in shadowboxes along the sides of the vehicle.---- Having made several Art Cars both for Houston's streets and Burning Man, I have been inspired by a variety of artists’ and contraptionists’ creativity. David Best is one of the most inspirational given the variety of materials he works with and his collaborative nature - each creation being different from the last. We fell in love with this car in 2007. When the previous owner of this car passed, we chased it through several owners in a short period of time - one even went to prison after we had "bought" the car and the car was lost for a short time. Why this car? It is both practical and visually magnificent. Practical because attention was given to its modifications so as not to overburden its driveability and to make for relatively easy repairs when decorative pieces go "missing". The play of objects, colors and textures with the pop of a purple & cheetah interior provide endless visual discovery.
