In the past have celebrated the following artists or genres: Antonio Gaudi, Monet, Hans Edelmann, Japanese Art, Texas Music Legends, Magritte, Charley Harper, Gustav Klimt, Pedro Linares, Yayoi Kusama, Keith Haring, Victor Brauner, and Niki de Saint Phalle. We begin by painting the entire car white and then proceed letting the art of the honored artist spark our painting.---- We moved to Houston in 1992, a move necessitated by a job. We loved our former town which made it hard to adjust to a new and very different climate and landscape in Houston. But we set out to explore and a visit to the Orange Show was one of our first expeditions. Soon we attended our first Art Car Parade. We found it utterly fascinating and continued attendance until 2008 when the Parade, Mother’s Day, and Mary Anne’s birthday all occurred in the same weekend. Mary Anne decided she wanted an Art Car for her birthday, and it has become a tradition ever since that includes friends and family who come from out of town to attend. Some of them even try to come early to be able to go on the Main Street Drag because it is so much fun to visit the schools.
