Description

---- The Emerald City Combi is the Wizards ride down the Yellow Brick Road. Covered in sparkling crystal gems from wheel well to roof panel, you'll pay no attention to the man behind the curtain when you see this magnificent piece of moving art. The Emerald City Combi is adorned with amethyst, bloodstone, calcite, chrysoprase, epidote, peridot, selenite, serpentine, and illuminated with LED light strips and fog machine magic! We travelled far from Texas to obtain the materials required to complete Emerald City and have spent many hours preparing the 1974 VW Window Van to receive the glowing stone panels which provide the finish. Finally, a costumed crew of Yellow Brick Road merrymakers will accompany Emerald City on its journey through the Houston Art Car Parade.---- And.... Take two. Last year we applied and were accepted into the parade but our car suffered a catastrophic breakdown on the way to the event. This year, creative people Aaron Hoffman and Omar Ochoa are back with a repaired and ready to go Emerald City. We have been inspired by Houston's Art Car Parade for many years and have longed to make an entry. When Aaron, who runs Wizards Auto, a classic car restoration shop came to Omar, who's diversity of creative endeavors have been featured around Houston for many years, with the idea of Emerald City, the story began. In January 2024, Aaron and Omar travelled to gem and mineral shows in Arizona to obtain materials for the 1974 Volkswagen Combi that had been sitting at the shop waiting for its next adventure. Both Aaron and Omar are super excited about the reactions that a vehicle completely covered in raw earth gems will elicit from Houston Art Car Parade attendees. Additionally, the Emerald City crew knows the Wizard of Oz story resonates with many people and contains timeless lessons about the importance of adventure, friendship, and conquering our fears despite all odds. We hope Emerald City will be a treasured addition to the parade for years to come.
