1758/Hughes: Marriage portion agreementDescription
If this document is an original and not a copy, it is the earliest item preserved by the Hughes family. It details an agreement by William Hughes to pay £100 to his son, also William Hughes, when the son's intended marriage to Sarah Jackson, daughter of Jane (?) Jackson, widow, is consummated. It is dated 11 October 1758.
The document was almost certainly collected by Augustus Fossett Vaughan, the uncle of Humphrey Vaughan Hughes, early in his family researches which he began in 1866 aged 21.
