Contrary to appearances, the child on the left is a boy, Claud Albert Stainton Day. He was the last child of the family and he and Horatio were the only surviving children because their four older brothers and sisters all died very young.
Kathleen has written "circa 1870" for the date but this is clearly incorrect as Horatio, according to the family tree, was born in 1871.
