1878/Vaughan: Mayor of StockportDescription
DIGITAL IMAGE, original item location unknown.
Circa 1878. John Lingard Vaughan married Frances Hughes in 1843 at All Hallows, Barking. They had eleven children, only five of whom survived childhood or into early adulthood. The most important of the children for the purposes of this archive were Augustus Fossett Vaughan, the oldest and longest surviving son, and Rose Edith, mother of Humphrey and Kathleen.
John Lingard Vaughan became Mayor of Stockport in 1878, so this picture is likeliest to be from this period when he was in his heyday.
He was also Warden for Christ Church on Wellington Road North, Stockport, which is where Rose Edith married Francis in 1880.
He died in 1887 and is thought to have been buried in a family vault at Christ Church.
