Name/Title
1918/Vaughan: Mary Louisa VaughanDescription
Mary Louisa Vaughan, "Ba-Ba", was one of Kathleen's maiden aunts on the Vaughan side. She is mentioned in Kathleen's memoir as having a severe mental breakdown not long after Kathleen's terrible experiences in November 1918 when her husband Leonard died and Kathleen herself nearly died from post-partum complications. Ba-Ba, who had moved to Kathleen and Leonard's house as housekeeper, disappeared, having left behind a note saying that she had gone to do penance. She was searched for but not found, but eventually reappeared of her own accord with no explanation. She was placed in a nursing home in Kent, and when recovered was given a home by Leonard's mother and sister at Teddington (Teddington being in London, between Hampton Wick and Twickenham).
Kathleen has written very few details on the back of this photograph, but the very Victorian type of dress suggests a date before the First World War. It is not known where Leighton Buzzard fits into the story.
