The only child of Leonard and Kathleen Urch, Monica was born the day before Leonard died of Spanish Influenza on 1 November 1918.
She seems to be around six months old in this photograph. The handwriting on the back is Kathleen's and it gives no details apart from Monica's married name. Kathleen never bonded with Monica, probably because of the terrible circumstances surrounding her birth.
Monica became Monica Mack after Kathleen married for the second time, in April 1921. The McAllen name came with Monica's own marriage in 1942.
