Unused postcard from the British Empire Exhibition. The Exhibition took place at Wembley from 1924-25.
It was not until 1929 that Andrew Chalmers set up its first overseas holding, with the foundation of the Ntondwe Tobacco Company. Ntondwe was in the Shire Highlands, Nyasaland. The Mashonaland Tobacco Company, at Salisbury in Southern Rhodesia, was set up six years later in 1935.
This postcard notes that the Government has extensive areas of land suitable for tobacco growing which can be purchased at low rates on easy terms. Tobacco production was already a major enterprise in Rhodesia and would continue to grow for the next 40 years.
