1925/Mack: RJ's letter book, Aorangi

Name/Title

1925/Mack: RJ's letter book, Aorangi

Scope and Content

Contemporary unused postcard of RM M-S (Motor Ship) Aorangi. RJ (Reggie) Mack's first letter book, 1925, contains handwritten copies of letters which RJ sent from the office of Andrew Chalmers, at 22 Minories, London E1, to his older brother Fred, who was chairman of the company. Fred had left the office for some seven months, to undertake the long sea voyage to Australia and back. He arrived at Sydney on 3 March. The likeliest boat for Fred's outbound journey (the dates fit perfectly) was the Union Steam Ship Company's RMS Aorangi. She commenced her maiden voyage from Southampton on 2 January 1925, and ports of call included: Vancouver, Canada (29 January); Auckland, New Zealand (24 February), and finally Sydney, Australia (3 March). Additional info about the Aorangi by Reuben Goossens on the pdf attached.
