Name/Title

1934/Hughes: Humphrey in Iowa, USA

Description

1934? Humphrey, Dom Anselm Hughes, had a steadily increasing reputation as a musicologist, and this led to lecture tours on behalf of the Nashdom community. Due to his renown, the Nashdom community made their first contacts in America when he travelled there to lecture in 1931, 1934, and 1939. On the last trip, the outbreak of war in 1939 meant that he had to remain in the United States until the end of 1943. During this time, he returned for two years to parochial work (see his obituary, written at Nashdom in 1974, for more details). This photograph appears to be of one of his radio broadcasts, made from KWLC, a college radio station at Iowa, probably at Luther College, Decorah. The full details are written on the back but unfortunately obscured by having been pasted into an album at one stage.
