1934/Chalmers: The office at the Minories

Name/Title

1934/Chalmers: The office at the Minories

Description

Andrew Chalmers office. No date but clearly taken at the same time as the one which shows Arthur Tringham in the sample room, therefore, circa 1934. The premises were at 22 Minories, Aldgate, which was destroyed early in the London Blitz in 1940. E A F Davey ('Ted', 2nd from right) was a very significant member of the firm. He worked in the London office from 1923 to 1948. He then relocated to Rhodesia to work for Andrew Chalmers there. His house in Salisbury** was called "Newberries", which suggests that he was originally from Radlett. (Newberries was a large house in Radlett, which gave its name to Newberries Avenue when its land was developed for housing.)
