1934/Chalmers: The sample room at 22 Minories

Name/Title

1934/Chalmers: The sample room at 22 Minories

Description

No date but the presence of Arthur Tringham, who retired in 1935 (having been with Andrew Chalmers since 1885) confirms that this photograph was taken pre-war in the offices at 22 Minories, Aldgate, which was destroyed in the Blitz in 1940. RJ Mack, in his book "Andrew Chalmers and Company", says that the firm moved into 22 Minories about January 1919. During the Second World War, the main office moved out to Little Kendals in Hertfordshire, and was there from June 1940 to September 1943. The office then moved back to London to 136-138 Minories. This was the address at the time RJ completed his book in December 1950.
