1936/Mack: At St Andrew's Hospital

Description

DIGITAL IMAGE only, original with Frank Harris. Rupert Harris was a male nurse and physical therapist at St Andrew's Hospital, Northampton, a grand private psychiatric hospital. Peter would have known Rupert approximately 10 years after this photograph was taken. In gratitude for Rupert's help in his recovery, he gave Rupert his RAF watch. Rupert biog details: Rupert joined the Welsh Guards in 1929 and was the Regiment's marksman. Being an excellent sportsman, he also played cricket and football for them. After he left the Army, he joined St Andrew's Hospital in 1934, as a male nurse specialising in sports as therapy, and remained there until 1973, all his working life. He took groups of patients fishing in Wales, which may have been where Peter picked up the hobby which was so unlike his usual preoccupations.
