Name/Title

1950/Day: St Agnes Church, Hove

Description

Circa 1950 - Edward Francis Day, "Teddy", the son of Dorothy, with an unknown young woman, at St Agnes, Hove. There are no details written on the back of the photograph, but he looks around 40 years of age. The modern photograph shows the same doorway. Teddy's father, the Revd Horatio Edmund Valentine Day, was the priest-in-charge at St Agnes, Hove, from 1913-16. Teddy was vicar of St Agnes, Hove from 1949, and held the post until his early death in 1970, aged 61. This church, built on the corner of Fonthill Road and Newtown Road in Hove, was a very late arrival in the Anglo-Catholic movement, being dedicated on 18 October 1913, less than one year before the outbreak of the First World War. It had a very short lifespan, being declared redundant in July 1977. It is now used as a gym.
