1953/Chalmers: Coronation of Queen Elizabeth IIDescription
First day cover, sent from Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia, on 1 June 1953.
The coronation of Queen Elizabeth II was marked by Andrew Chalmers' staff in Britain, Rhodesia and Nyasaland by an exchange of Coronation Crowns (specially minted five shilling pieces).
NOT STRICTLY TO DO WITH THE ARCHIVE BUT INTRIGUING:
Inside the envelope of the first day cover, unopened for 73 years, was this rather mystifying list from T McMicking, Cholo, Nyasaland, apparently a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (London), and possibly a dealer in stamps.
