JMG notes: 'Their wedding was close to the end of the Suez Canal crisis, and when Robin and Daphne came to say goodbye to us at 10 Aldenham Grove, one evening when we children were already in bed, I thought that they were going off to war. Robin was in full uniform and looked very heroic and glamorous to my four-year-old eyes."
