1957/Chalmers: Capetown Castle

Name/Title

1957/Chalmers: "Capetown Castle"

Description

Friday, 8 March 1957. Dinner menu for "First Saloon". Union-Castle ships were frequently used by Andrew Chalmers personnel travelling to and from Africa. Peter Mack in particular took full advantage of the luxuries and amusements on board. Although he may not have been on this particular voyage, this menu card can stand in for the many voyages that he did take, as did his father RJ before him from the 1920s onwards. It is not known what class they travelled in, but it was likely to have been first-class once Andrew Chalmers was sufficiently well-established. The very pleasant illustration shows Rhodesian butterflies and moths.
