1958/Chalmers: Salisbury in Rhodesia

Name/Title

1958/Chalmers: Salisbury in Rhodesia

Description

Postcard dated 17 February 1958, of the Cecil Rhodes statue in Salisbury. The writer of the card, only signing with a "P" but probably male, is fed up about having to return to Chipinga (Manicaland, close to the border with Portuguese East Africa), which he presumably finds a rather benighted place. He is hoping to be transferred to somewhere else with an unreadable name. He writes that the four-day break in Salisbury has been wonderful. "Visit Rhodesia and Nyasaland" postcard issued by the Federal Information Department, this being the short-lived Federation of the two Rhodesias (North and South) and Nyasaland. The Federation existed 1953-1963.
