1965/Chalmers: Relocation to WatfordDescription
After it left London, Andrew Chalmers' new address was Star House, 69-71 Clarendon Road, Watford, Hertfordshire.
JMG notes (May 2026): "Peter Mack was very proud of his financial acumen in securing a grant for the move to Watford - at that time, the government were encouraging businesses to relocate from London and invest in the regions.
Some of the old London staff continued with the firm, but those from the glory days of RJ's expert management were gradually bowing out. New local people were employed, such as Mick, the full-time chauffeur, whose main task seemed to be to run around on errands for Peter. For a few weeks these included driving me to and from school after I broke her leg in a riding accident."
There is no known photograph of Star House at the time that Andrew Chalmers was there. The photograph here was taken around 2015, and shows the office block looking rather shabby and run down. It has been renamed Meridian House.
