1966/Chalmers: "Life with UDI"Description
"Life with UDI: A cartoon history of independent Rhodesia" by Louis Bolze and Klaus Ravn. Second edition July 1966 (Louis W Bolze, Bulawayo).
Rhodesian UDI (Unilateral Declarations of Independence) was declared on 11 November 1965.
This is a book of cartoon about the many, many abortive discussions and tussles between the British government, led by Harold Wilson, and Ian Smith's government in Rhodesia.
Andrew Chalmers was part of the extremely lucrative Rhodesian tobacco business, which was penalised after UDI by sanctions placed by the British government and many other countries.
