1963/Jensen: Later years, North Heale before modernisation

North Heale, High Bickington, near Umberleigh, Devon. Last view of the old back of the house with its characteristic sloping wings on the porch.
Crass modernisation wrecked the charm of the farmhouse after it was sold by Bill Clarke, and he and Vinnie moved to a bungalow with a small plot of very flat land on the former Winkleigh Airfield, south of Barnstaple. There Bill kept a few sheep to remind him of past times. The farmhouse was sold mainly because Bill could no longer cope with the steepness of the fields at North Heale.
This photograph was taken after the house had been sold but before the revamp took place. The date is a guess.
