In 1972, Ferrara re-powered the camaro with a 466-inch (.030-inch-over 454) big block with the latest open-chamber aluminum heads from Air Flow Research, one of the cars sponsors. Another sponsor, Edelbrock, provided Motion with a new UR-2 step-type Tunnel Ram manfold, installed with a pair of Heolley 4500 quads. With this engine tronsmitting power to the latest 13.5 inch Firestone slicks mounted on 10-inch American Spirit mags, Ferrara started running consistent 9.80-9.90s. At suffolk Raceway in Virginia on April 29th 1972, the Camaro set the NHRA A/MP speed record at 138.46 piles per hour. One month later at Sanair Dragway in St. Pie Quebec (near Montreal), Ferrara ran a 10.00 to nail the ET record.
