1583 – A JESUS FEEDS 5,000 Christopher Plantin A small, original full-page engraving with text on reverse. From the Plantin press in Antwerp of 1583. Number 49. Details are typical of Flemish art of the time. This is an original copper-plate engraving from the printed work entitled: “Humanae salutis monumeta” by Benedictus Montanus. Montanus became the editor of the famous Polyglot (multilingual) Bible published by Catholic counter-reformation publisher, Christopher Plantin. This print edition was finished in 1582 and appeared in 1583 but was dated as 1571; an attempt by Plantin to avoid the censure of the Calvinists who, by 1582, controlled Antwerp.
