1876 – C RECRUITMENT PRINT FOR MOODY BIBLE CHURCH, CHICAGO, IL. Jackson, Ruehlow & Company, Lithographers. This is a vivid copy reproduction print of the actual Sunday School class of famed evangelist Dwight L. Moody. The title of the painting is “Will It Pay?”. Joining Dwight Moody is his great benefactor, Mr. J.V. Farwell. The painting location is North Market Hall in Chicago, Illinois. The original hand-colored 1876 chromolithograph was derived from a photograph taken during the 1850’s. J.V. Farwell is standing in the rear row on the left. Dwight L. Moody is pictured next to Farwell on Farwell’s right. This Sunday School class grew to number over 650 street people. This class was so well known, that President-elect Abraham Lincoln visited and spoke to the class on November 25, 1860, shortly after Lincoln’s election and before Lincoln relocated to Washington, DC. The boys in the front row are known by their nicknames, left to right: Indian, Jackie Candles, Black Stove Pipe, Sniderick, Old Man, Billy Blucorn, and Rag-Breeches Cadet. The boys in the second row, are left to right: Red eye, Darby the Gobbler, Smikes, Butcher Kilroy, Billy Bucktooth, and Greenhorn. A boy named Madden the Butcher is seated with a broom on the far right. A verse is added; Luke 14:23: “Go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in.” The image size is 10.5 inches by 15 inches. Manifest Record: 370460163231
