1919 – D TREASURER OF THE HARLEM DAUGHTERS OF PEACE BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION Painted and calligraphied by Ames & Rollinson of New York. A 1919 large certificate of appreciation to Mrs. Sarah Williams thanking her for 11 years as treasurer of the Daughters Of Peace Benevolent Association. This women’s organization was also known as the Ladies Free Loan Association of Harlem. This is a large, original, highly detailed Harlem women charity award painting. An original photograph is mounted. Headquarters was located at 114th street in New York. This very large art-artifact lists all the names of the directors at the time, a majority of whom were Jewish women. Gold etching and accents adorn this highly ornate certificate. Of interest is the calligraphers: Ames and Rollinson. They also drew the check that was given to Charles Lindberg upon completing his transatlantic flight, and now resides in the Smithsonian.
