1880 – 1915 FAITH, HOPE, AND CHARITY POSTCARDS
This picture frames 5 original printed, color postcard without text and 3 photo color post cards with text. Of note are symbols for FH & C depicted; an anchor for “hope”, the cross for “faith”, and children being mentored by mothers and grandmothers to be involved in charity. Cards A, B, and E, are from the same series on Faith and Charity using the concept of Hope as a bridge to each. Card C is also further illustrated in the enlarged digitization seen in 1897 – A. The bottom three cards: F, G, and H were from the same series and drawn by the famed artist Malick.
Card A – Faith: “Dear Lord, when I am fast asleep, I hope you’ll keep awake.
And those I love both far and near to them your blessings take.”
Card B – Hope: “Have you seen the angels pass this way? Tell me I pray.
They’ve been and fetched my mother and took her far away.
Me and daddy loves her and I’ve left him now in pain,
I said I’d go and find them and bring her back again.”
Card E – Charity: “Charity suffereth long and is kind,
Charity faileth never.
Charity seeketh the poor and the sad,
Charity liveth ever.”
Card D: “Faith doth brighten our life’s way
Hope keepeth dull cares at bay
Charity: Goodness doth portray”
Image size is 3 ½ inches by 5 inches for each card.
Manifest Record: unavailable as each post card was purchased individually.Collection
